Milind , you have been one of the icons of fitness & good health over the last few decades in our country . Amidst the growing crowd and popularity of a variety of fitness options ( kickboxing , HIIT , Zumba , Pilates ) in the recent years , how important do you think Yoga is in our day to day life for good health and a sound mind ? I think there is nothing like , more or less important . It is what you can do comfortably and what interests you . Because , of course , if you want to have a sustainable and a healthy lifestyle , then you need to have activities that you are interested in , that you enjoy . Based on that you have to choose , a mix of activities or a particular activity . So Yoga , of course I think is a complete activity to maintain good health . If you can do yoga well , and you can practice yoga and become good at yoga , I think you can maintain it quite easily .
The medical industry has flourished big time in India which is good but it also indicates depreciating health . Lifestyle disorder is a major issue today particularly for the women in our country . You have been one of the founders of the Pinkathon which is a great step in this direction . What is your mantra on improving the health & fitness chart of India ? Well , I think , women are the key to changing the way we are viewing health in the country today . So , as you said that the medical industry , of course , is growing that is generally to deal with the sick people . So , what we want to do is actually promote the idea of health and how to maintain healthy , the idea that everyone is born with good health and maintain that health and then we don ’ t really need to consume pills or go to doctors . So the idea of women as the key is that if they understand the value of a good lifestyle and a healthy lifestyle and understand what is good health . For example , they will have a healthier and a fitter family , who are more aware of what they need to do to maintain their health .
The other thing that I ’ d like to say is that it is not that we are becoming sicker . It is that we are forgetting how to maintain our health . It is the different thing . We are not becoming sicker ; we are forgetting how to maintain our health .
You have recently launched Deivee - a women ' s health apparel brand . All fitness activities including Yoga require a particular kind of dress code . What does Deivee offer and how is it different ? Also , what was the driving force behind this idea ? It is a comfortable dress , you need to be comfortable when you are exercising , your movement needs to be comfortable , they should not be restricted by the clothes , that is the main thing for any apparel that has been connected with sports . Your movement should not be restricted by the outfit and the difference that we have , one , of course is organic and recycle and all of those things and eco friendly , the other thing is that we make the garments for different sizes and shapes of women . It ' s not that we insist that you have to be a particular size and shape to wear our garments . You can be any size and shape and you can wear the garment . So in fact , we focus a lot on that , how can we make our garment accessible to all kinds of women , not just a particular kind of women .
Milind , you are the Ironman of India and we all are proud of you . Can we know what your fitness regime is ? I don ' t have any kind of regime , I don ' t really exercise . I don ' t believe that exercise is important . I believe that a healthy lifestyle overall is important , and when it comes to exercise particularly , I think an active lifestyle is more important than exercise , because , as we know scientifically they say that even if you exercise for two hours a day , then sit for the next 8 hrs , then the good effect of the exercise is completely lost . So the exercise is not really important , it is the active lifestyle throughout the day , how you can be active , that is important . So it ' s only that we have lost all kinds of activity , we have become completely sedentary , that we try and include activity in our life which is exercise . So I don ’ t exercise , I don ' t have any kind of regime , I ' m just really , really active and I always make the right choices as far as possible according to food and sleep and maintaining a positive mindset ..
Any mantra or tip you would like to share with our readers for good health , focused mind and longevity ? There is a Mantra - Be Active is what I would say . Simple things like don ' t use technology until it is absolutely necessary , like for example , we are so used to taking the elevator and not climbing the stairs . It ' s simple , we don ' t really need to take the elevator , and we don ' t need to take the lift . You can take the stairs . But if we don ' t take the stairs , then we are going to lose the ability to climb the stairs . So that is what I said , so it ' s not that we are becoming sick , we are losing our ability and forgetting how to remain healthy . It ' s a simple thing . Just be active , eat the food that your grandparents ate , those which are natural , healthy and homemade food , sleep well at the right time . These are the things . It ' s not rocket science .
