Yogic journey, travels & experiences
“Today, with the
growing popularity
of Yoga, Yoga dance
has also reached
many minds and
feet.”
Y
ou have been a performer and
teacher in Yoga now for over 20
years. Tell us how you took to
the practice of Yoga and how has the
journey been so far?
I started yoga in the right moment, My
parents divorced and separated I was a
restless 14 years old and was quite out of
my mind. I found a book called "Yug,
Yoga and Yogism" written by "De La
Ferriere" and as it was borrowed to me, I
tried to read it in one go. I also tried to
practice all the asanas I saw in that book
in three days.
Later I went to my ballet class and I
perceived I was in a perfect balance, and
an unusual easiness in my dance, I
immediately connected that to the yoga
practice I had done with that book, then
yoga took me to India, Rabindranath
Tagore, the Yoga sutras, to the Bhagavad
Gita, to Gandhi, to the Upanishads,
many years later Yoga also took me to
India, to Ayurveda, to Buddhism, and
finally to Meditation. It has been a sacred
journey so far, as any other art yoga
requires the complete and entire being
to be mindful, aware, fully present...
honouring body, mind and spirit.
When you taught Yoga dance in India
10 years back, not many knew much
about Yoga dance. It was a new term
back then. Today, with the growing
popularity of Yoga, Yoga dance has also
reached many minds and feet. Please
throw some light over the Yoga dance
