Aloe vera is an excellent beauty recipe
during summer. It moisturises the skin
without making it oily. It can be applied
both on the skin and hair.
During summer, excessive sun-exposure
can make the hair dry, leading to split
ends and hair breakage. Cover the hair
with a scarf, a hat or dupatta, or carry a
parasol. Chlorine in swimming pools
and salt in sea water make the hair dry,
matted and dull. Wet the hair well
before and after a swim. Hair is porous,
but it can absorb that much and no
more. Rinse out the hair with plain
water after a swim.
High humidity during summer can also
pose a problem, especially to those
with oily hair. Oily hair tends to attract
dirt and pollutants from the
atmosphere more easily. The look of the
hair really suffers. It becomes limp soon
after a shampoo and loses its shine,
body and bounce. The salt in your
sweat, along with environmental grime,
makes the hair rough and robs it of its
lustre and body
If you perspire a lot, you will find that
you need to shampoo your hair more
frequently. Use less shampoo and rinse
your hair well with water. If your hair is
oily, avoid rich conditioners. Try hair
rinses.
Lemon juice can be added to a mug of
water and used as a last rinse. A lemon
rinse helps to reduce grease and also
maintains normal balances. Add the
juice of a lemon and half a cup of rose
water to one mug of water and use it as
a last rinse after shampoo. Removes
odour and has a cooling effect.
Ayurveda advocates summer henna
treatments for the hair during summer,
to cool and cleanse the hair. Henna also
cools the hair and scalp.
