an epic
victory in a rip-roaring local derby.
The visitors drew first blood with
a 10th-minute Jack Caldwell strike
but Lewis Beveridge soon had Lenzie
level when he burst through the
middle to score.
The Navy Blues then took the lead
with a delightful goal. Ben Graham
whipped over a cross from the
right and fellow wide man Callum
Groom arrived on cue to bullet his
header home. An Andy McCarthy
penalty then tied things up before
Bishopbriggs re-gained the lead
through Nathan Adger.
Half Time - 2:3
The action continued after the break
as Groom made it 3-3, Lenzie found
themselves behind for a third time
after another spot-kick was scored
by McCarthy. However, showing
tremendous team spirit, the G66
boys came storming back again and
their pressure forced a penalty, coolly
converted by Ewan Macpherson.
Minutes later, the outstanding
Macpherson was upended in the box
and spot-kick number four of the
match was duly dispatched by the
Lenzie No.10 himself. Bishopbriggs
rallied in a desperate attempt to save
a point but, with the play stretched,
Macpherson sealed victory when he
broke through to find the far corner
of the net.Lenzie Academy coach Mr
Walker was delighted with his team’s
efforts. “The boys deserved the win
for their tremendous spirit and team
work,” he said. “Everyone involved
played their part.”
