Hardly a week went by in May
without a cup final somewhere in the
Central Region, but the Regional Cup
finals took centre stage as the month
and the season drew to a close. The
fact that only one final was settled by
more than one goal is testament to
the strength of the teams involved.
In the under-13’s group, Cambuslang
FC defeated PFD United 2-1 with a
dramatic late winner.
The under-14’s final was settled with
an extra time wonder goal for Gow
Valley against Hamilton Accies. In the
under-15’s final, Mill Utd BC Colts
edged out Cumbernauld Colts with a
1-0 win, while the under 16’s match
between league rivals Airdrie and
Kilsyth Athletic produced an end to
end, entertaining match, with Kilsyth
eventually prevailing 4-2.
Rossvale FC took the under-17’s
crown with a close 2-1 win against
FVFDA side Larbert Athletic, and
Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers also
sealed a treble with a fine 2-1 win
over Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in the 19’s
final. In the last match of the Central
Region season, Mill Utd 21’s made it
a double for the club on the day by
emulating the under-15’s cup success
against Cumbernauld Colts, scoring a
tightly fought 2-1 win for the region’s
premier trophy.
