CLUB PROFILE STROLLING On SINCE '73 With a history dating rback to 1973, Glenrothes have grown into one of Scotland’s best known youth football clubs. The club boasts over 300 members in addition to many volunteers and adheres to a Club Constitution that was drawn up to ensure that a code of conduct was followed when promoting youth football in the community. In 2007 the Glenrothes Strollers committee started the search for a place to call home. Until then, individual teams had to look for pitches in surrounding areas with no real home ground ever being cemented. The council soon leased Overstenton Park, with the sixteen acre site becoming Glenrothes Strollers’ new home. With this set in place, the club began to expand 22 22 | YFS Magazine | Issue #1 and subsequently added a girls team as well as a Learning Disabled squad. After being established in 2010, the Glenrothes Strollers Girls section of the club currently consists of three teams playing at ages under 9, under 11 and under 13 in the Fife/ Perth league of the SWF. The club celebrated its 40th anniversary this June, hosting a Fife Fun 4s tournament. Over 400 kids took part in the day which also featured a Learning Disabled football tournament that was attended by teams from across Scotland. Also in attendance were founders of the club Jim Kane and Drew Hendry as well as provost of Fife council, Jim Leishman. In 2012, Strollers U19s won the 1994 Plate final at the Loch Lomond Festival.
