thriller
It was a sunny day at
Monymusk
, and two teams had
their eyes set on advancing further
in Scottish Cup. It was hard to say
who would come out on top between
Letham Tangerines and Dundee
United SC, but both teams looked
ready to battle it out for a spot in
the next round. Dundee United SC
pushed up early on, hungry for an
early goal.
In the 3rd minute they won a free
kick. Ben Russell hit the ball towards
goal. It looked like it was going to
dip into the net but bounced off the
cross bar. Letham Tangerines replied
with their own free kick minutes later
when Aidan Strong was fouled. Rian
Shillan stepped up to take the free
kick, Shillan struck the ball hard. The
ball then beautifully dipped into the
top corner giving Letham Tangerines
an early lead. It wasn’t long before
Letham Tangerines made it 2-0, with
a bit of déjà vu.
Letham won another free kick, and
Rian Shillan again hit the back of the
net. Dundee United SC came close
in the 15th minute when Rhys Doran
made a speedy run down the wing,

then cut inside and beat a player.
Doran smashed the ball towards
goal but Michael Patton made a
tremendous save. United scored
their first goal of the game in the
27th minute.
Ben Russell played a superb
through ball, then from the right
wing Bryce Murray swung a ball into
the box which rattled off the inside
left post and into the back of the net
making it 2-1. Letham Tangerines
minutes later replied with a goal of
their own, as Kyle Mitchell placed
the ball perfectly from inside the
box making it 3-1. The whistle blew
soon after.
Half Time : 3-1
Dundee United SC kicked the
second half off, and they looked
hungry to score. They were pushing
up and putting a lot of pressure on
the Letham defence and it wasn’t
long before it paid off.
In the 44th minute, Darren
Mckay nodded in a hard corner
making the score 3-2. Dundee
United SC scored an equaliser in
the 53rd minute. United’s counter
attack proved successful as Rhys
Doran made a tremendous dribble
through the midfield then drove the
ball into the back of the net making
it 3-3. Three minutes later, Letham
Tangerines had the lead once again.
Rian Shillan comes to the rescue
once with his super free kicks.
Shillan powered his free kick into the
net, slipping through the keepers
grip and bringing the score up to 4-3.
In the 60th minute, the game
was now looking to be a goal fest
as Dundee United SC scored an
equaliser. Another cross did the job
for Dundee United SC as Keigan
Reilly nodded the ball into the back
of the net from the back post.
Dundee United SC weren’t
finished yet though, as they took
the lead in the 62nd minute. Darren
Mckay controlled a brilliant through
ball into the box, and then slotted
the ball past the keeper making the
score 5-4. It wasn’t all over, in the
70th minute of the game Letham
were awarded a penalty.
