Send your news, articles and notices to [email protected] Neighbourhood Police Team Here is the monthly crime report for the village of Atworth and the surrounding areas. Firstly we have had a few reports of criminal damage within the village in the last few weeks. Our first report came in the early hours of the morning on Sunday 1st June when a resident of Shell Court heard something being thrown against the window as they sat watching the telly. On inspection it appears that a piece of concrete was thrown against the window causing it to smash and the witness saw 2 persons running away from the scene. Then later on around 1800 hours on Sunday 1st June workers on the Atworth Business park overheard a loud noise outside their unit and when they went outside they discovered four windows on a storage unit had been smashed by the throwing of stones. These two mindless acts of vandalism appear to be unrelated however we would ask anyone with information to please contact the Police. Community Speedwatch continue to operate well in the village and gets the support from local NPT officers when available. Only this last week Police officer followed up the checks carried out by the CSW team by visiting 5 local drivers and given a verbal warning as to their speeding through the village. The aim of this direct approach will raise the awareness of those drivers who for whatever reason have been speeding through the village. With the summer months well and truly upon us I would like to remind people about the dangers of drink driving and advise people not to take that risk. Alcohol can seriously affect the judgement of those persons who get behind the wheel and that is why offenders who are caught are dealt with robustly by the courts. The likelihood of losing your license and receiving a hefty fine will just be the start of matters as your day to day life without a driving licence suddenly becomes more difficult. It is plain and simple do not drink and drive. Wiltshire Police are engaging in a Summer Drink Drive campaign to run in line with the Football World Cup. With many matches finishing late in to the evening we would advise persons against getting behind the wheel of a car after drinking alcohol. If you know of anyone who is drink driving then Wiltshire Police do operate a dedicated drink drive hotline which you can access by calling the 101 number then select option 4 when through to Wiltshire Police. The NPT will continue to hold our drop ins within the village and we hope to see people attending those meetings:The White Hart pub at midday on the 4th Tuesday of the month for 30 minutes. Neston Farm shop every 4th Thursday of the month between 1100-1130 hours 30 minute drop in prior to every Parish Council meeting. These drop ins are aimed at giving local residents the chance to met up with a member of your local Policing Team for advice or a chat so please pop along.
