We must all care about rubbish and litter dropped on our pavements and grass verges by lazy people. Carry small plastic bags with you in the car,or pocket. Help keep our pleasant locality tidy by picking up any small item of litter and 'binning' when you get home. Put your hand into your plastic bag, pick up the item, then turn the bag inside out. This way you do not touch the object! Sadly FIVE large mature hedgehogs were squashed flat on the A365 near to the Village Hall, one day after another, during April. each made a shocking and very sad sight. Mid-May a fully grown young Hare was also splattered across the A 365 by Chapel Rise -probably panicked out of the fields by a dog. We cannot prevent these catastrophes, but we can help any younger hedgehogs found abandoned. Do NOT leave out cows milk - Country File constantly remind us that milk causes young hedgehogs to die. Hedgehogs can die from eating slugs which have digested commercial slug poison. Please use safe natural 'slug-blockers' such as sand-grit deterrents. This is the last month that children can plant sun flower seeds, lettuce seeds, et cetera, and enjoy the result later in the Summer.Nothing more wonderful than eating your own salads grown in your own garden, in pots or planters!
