Linked Learning Origin: Los Angeles Unified School District Link: Click here Summary: The implementation of the Linked Learning Resolution leverages strategies to also expand project-based learning and directly link this method of engagement in the classroom with work-based learning within thematic small schools and small learning communities. Talking Points & Important Information: • The Linked Learning program expands students’ access to work-based learning opportunities by requiring vendors that get contracts from LAUSD to offer high-quality work-based learning opportunities for students. High quality work-based learning opportunities strategically blend components of rigorous academics with career-based learning by empowering teams of teachers to collaborate with business, post-secondary, and community partners to offer professional learning experiences to students. Students then develop the skills and knowledge they need to be better prepared for high-skill, high-wage jobs. • Linked learning transforms students’ high school experience by bringing together strong academics, demanding career and technical education, and real-world experience to help students gain an advantage in high school, post-secondary education, and careers. • To learn more about linked learning, click here. 2015 POLICY BOOK SCHOOL BOARD LEVEL PAGE 55
