and recommendations from administrators, funders, providers, finance policy analysts, and
program evaluators.
Relevant Talking Points & Important Information:
• According to our partners at the School-Based Health Alliance, students perform better
when they show up for class healthy and ready to learn. School-based health centers
ensure that students grades K-12 can get flu shots, annual physical exams, dental and
optometry exams, or access mental health services without the barriers that many families
all too often face.
• School-based health centers are at the intersection of education and health and prevent
students from falling through the cracks. “They provide care – primary health, mental
health and counseling, family outreach, and chronic illness management – without
concern for the student’s ability to pay and in a location that meets students where they
