Nathan Shinagawa County Legislator, Ithaca, New York County Legislator Nathan Ikkyu Hanil Shinigawa became the youngest county legislator in the history of Tompkins County, NY when he was elected in 2005. He currently serves as the chair of the Public Safety Committee where he is a leader promoting the success of alternative to incarceration programs. Legislator Shinagawa is a graduate of Cornell University. LaKeisha G. Thomas Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, Washington, DC Commissioner LaKeisha G. Thomas is a native of Washington, DC. Ms. Thomas currently serves as Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in the neighborhood she was raised. Commissioner Thomas represents approximately 2,000 residents within her Single Member District, and the full commission of which she is a part represents approximately 22,000 residents. Commissioner Thomas is a graduate of Trinity University with a B.A. in psychology and the University of Cincinnati with a M.S. in criminal justice. She was elected in November 2008, and will complete her term in January 2011. Rashida Tlaib State Representative, Detroit, Michigan State Representative Rashida Tlaib was reelected to the Michigan State Legislature in November 2010. She was raised in Southwest Detroit, the eldest of 14 children, and a child of immigrants who taught her the importance of hard work, honesty, and commitment to community. She is the first in her family to earn a college degree. In 1998, she received her B.A. in political science from Wayne State University and her law degree from Thomas Cooley Law School in January of 2004. Representative Tlaib has received numerous awards and recognition for leadership and dedication to community service. Anna Marie Tovar State Representative, Tolleson, Arizona State Representative Anna Marie Tovar has been serving in the Arizona House of Representatives since February 2009. Previously, Representative Tovar served as a councilmember in the City of Tolleson from 2001-2009, and was appointed vice mayor in 2007. She serves as a member of the National Conference of State Legislatures and the National Association of Latino Elected Officials. Rep. Tovar attended Arizona State University where she received a B.A. in elementary education with emphasis in ESL. In addition to her service as a state representative, she is a teacher at Tolleson Elementary School. Igor Tregub Rent Stabilization Board Commissioner, Berkeley, California Commissioner Igor Tregub was elected in November 2008 to the Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board.
