YEO Bios Nichole Harris Mayor Tutwiler, Mississippi Mayor Nichole Harris is one of the only two women and youngest to hold Tutwiler, Mississippi’s highest elected office. She is currently serving her first term as the town’s chief executive officer. Before taking office in 2013, Harris served as an educator for many years. During her time as an educator, while maintaining high test scores, Harris has served on several committees for educational advancement and instruction throughout the state of Mississippi. Harris is driven to make sure that the children in her community are educated, healthy, and safe. She credits her success to her love for people and her commitment to improving the welfare and lives of citizens in her community. Harris is a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), where she received a B.S. in biology and M.A. in teaching. Harris is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and has two daughters, Tayia and La’Zarreia Hayes. Tyron Harris School Board Member East Hartford, Connecticut Clean Energy & Environmental Justice Policy Academy | 2016 36 Tyron Harris is a member of the Board of Education because of his faith and commitment to education. This, along with his business experience, allows him to bring a new effective voice to the Board of Education. Harris is a life-long resident of East Hartford but graduated from Berkeley College in New York City in 2006 with a B.B.A. in general management and a minor in Human Resources. His focus is student achievement and fiscal stability. Harris is working to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed in high school, attend college, and succeed in life. He is committed to offering a comprehensive high school experience and providing each student support. Harris serves because he wants input into our children’s future; to see children develop, grow, and achieve makes serving on the board worth his while. Daniel Hernandez School Board Member Tucson, Arizona Daniel Hernandez, a recently published author, is a school board member in the Sunnyside Unified School District. He first became politically engaged in response to Arizona’s immigration policies and chose to work on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Hernandez later began his studies in political science at the University of Arizona. While attending college, Hernandez served as a campaign manager for state Representative Steve Farley. Hernandez was a member of Tucson’s City Commission on LGBTQ issues. Hernandez is an outspoken advocate for gun control and immigration reform. @djblp
