YEOs Vonzelle Johnson City Commissioner - DeLand, Florida Council: Expanding Democracy Recently recognized by the Florida League of Women Voters as “The Future of Florida: A Young Elected Official to Watch,” and the Volusia/Flagler County Business Report’s Young Business Leader of the Year, Vonzelle Johnson serves as a DeLand city commissioner and chair of the Volusia County Democratic Executive Committee. Johnson formerly worked under President Wendy Libby of Stetson University, serving as her corporate fundraiser. In this role, Johnson cultivated relationships with corporate donors, championed fundraising efforts for financially disadvantaged students, recruited prospective board of trustees members, provided support to the School of Business Administration’s board of advisors, and lobbied local, state, national, and international officials to advance the institution. Johnson’s interdisciplinary background, consisting of public policy, counseling, success coaching, fundraising, and nonprofit development, primed him to serve in his current professional role as a managing partner at Strategic Philanthropic Solutions, LLC., a multifaceted public relations firm. Tishaura Jones Treasurer - St. Louis, Missouri Council: Defending Workers and Families Tishaura O. Jones’ political career began in 2002 when she was appointed as a Democratic committeewoman of the 8th Ward in the city of St. Louis. She was a Missouri state representative from 2008-2012 and was the first African-American and first female assistant minority floor leader. During her tenure, she was a strong advocate for education, women’s health, and economic development. She is also the first African-American female to represent St. Louis as treasurer. She has more than 15 years of experience in banking, healthcare, and human resources. She received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Hampton University in 1994 and a master’s degree in health administration from the St. Louis University School of Public Health in 2001. She is the proud mother of one rambunctious little boy, Aden. Nick Kapoor Town Councilmember - Monroe, Connecticut Council: Building a Healthy and Inclusive Society Nick Kapoor is an elected member of the Monroe, Connecticut town council. As a member of his local legislative body, he has fought for open, transparent government, a fair and balanced budget, and equality for all. Kapoor is also the leader of the Democratic Party in Monroe and takes pride in advancing the ideals of fairness, inclusiveness, and social equality for all in Monroe, in Connecticut, and in the country. Kapoor is a part-time MBA student at Sacred Heart University and works full-time for his family’s business, providing software to the property and casualty insurance industry. - 21 -
