Help Combat Preemption in Tallahassee

The city of Tallahassee , FL is facing a legal battle over local common-sense gun regulation . The conflict stems from a 2011 state law penalizing local elected officials working to push through gun violence prevention laws in their communities . Targeted local electeds face the prospect of large fines , restricted legal representation , and even removal from office . Mayor Andrew Gillum joined several colleagues in a stand against the law and were sued by gun rights groups Florida Carry and the Second Amendment Foundation . Mayor Gillum and his co-defendants were vindicated in court , but the issue of the punitive law ’ s constitutionality was not addressed . Florida Carry has appealed the ruling , and Mayor Gillum and the Commissioners have cross-appealed , seeking clarification on the constitutionality of the law .
