Personally, I chose the 1930s because of the meaning behind the fashion. The 30s was the eras that female started to stand on their own two feet from the men’s. This was shown in their style as it became the being of female masculinity. However, the fashion from the 30s was the most different out of the 3 eras because the 30s mainly forced on office wear and how to make everyday style practical. I feel that the impact of the 1930s has now influenced office wear fashion. The style is very tailored and fitted silhouette
The 1950s was the beginning of rebel unisex clothing and I think that’s why Caitlin and I have chosen this era. The 50s has inspired my style by making it look more rebellious and more James Dean vibe. However, this era has inspired Caitlin’s style more than mine as her style has a hit of rock and roll (which was the main music choice of the 50s). The 1950s has also made a massive impact in the fashion industry. There are a lot of clothing now that’s has gotten inspiration from the 50, for instance, leather jacket. Zara and AllSaints are two brands that have taken inspiration from Janes Dean and Marlon Brando leather jackets from the 50s. Also, Puma has collaborated with Fearless God Rihanna to create a sneaker which was inspired by the 50s creeper (become the shoe of the year 2016).
My favorite era out of the 3, has to be the 90s. Maybe because it’s the closest era to when I was born? But, the 1990s fashion has to be the closest to my style. My Style involves sneakers, denim, and anything oversized and personally, these 3 items scream out the 90s to me. The 1990s fashion has made the biggest impact out of all the eras. The 90s trend is never going to end. It has influenced all type of fashion, high-end, mainstream, and street style. But, the number 1 trend of the 90s that will never go out of fashion has to be the continuous experimentation with Sneakers. There are many brands such as Nike, Adidas, Converse, Air Jordan, Reebok, etc.… that has taken the trend and has changed the whole sneaker game.
When it came down to choosing the eras, it was very easy for me and Caitlin because we are like 2 peas in a pod. We have similar taste and we get each other very well, so we had no problem choosing the eras. To be honest, we chose the 1930s, 1950 and the 1990s because it matches our style the most and has made the biggest impact on fashion. Caitlin and I are very much interested and inspired by menswear and each of these eras are very macule in terms of fashion.
