MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR GENERAL
Dear friends of ParlAmericas,
As of March 2015 I will have been ParlAmericas' Director General for one year. As I look back on the many highlights, it's the insightful conversations I've had with many of you that stand out the most. I very much appreciate your feedback and enthusiasm, especially as we are innovating in many areas.
This year ParlAmericas organized several well-attended meetings with the parliaments of Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Chile. Back home, we moved offices – we now have a spectacular view of Parliament Hill in Ottawa – and carried out several staff transitions.
We developed wonderful partnerships with organizations specializing in issues like legislative openness, food security, and democracy strengthening. We contributed a regional and legislative perspective to their debates.
Other achievements include the unveiling of our new website, featuring an updated look and improved navigation. Furthermore, we’ve built a stronger social media presence and restructured our database to be more effective in how we reach out to you.
None of this has changed our identity as the inter-American body working on parliamentary issues. Our dedicated Board of Directors, permanent working group on gender equality, and institutional regulations have given us a consistent base from which to diversify and expand our engagements.
In the months ahead you’ll find ParlAmericas involved in more joint projects and hands-on workshops catered to the interests you’ve communicated to us. I look forward to continuing to work with you on action-oriented objectives, and to tell you more about the programming ideas in the works, inspired by you – parliamentarians of the Americas serving our continent.
I’m thrilled to be able to embrace this momentum.
