The Group of Women Parliamentarians promotes respect for women’s human rights and the inclusion of a gender perspective on the legislative agenda of member parliaments. The Group’s activities strengthen the work of women and men parliamentarians by providing a space to exchange knowledge and experience from a gender equality perspective. This working group organizes events aimed at strengthening the political capacities of parliamentarians committed to advancing the situation of women in the Americas.

The most recent annual Gathering titled Moving from Formal to Substantive Equality recognized that parity in representation is a vital goal, but it does not guarantee women’s meaningful participation in politics or public life. Conversations centred on how to create not just more but better political spaces for women.
