Year 10 Media
Course Outline
This course is designed to refine and manipulate concepts and skills developed in Years
7, 8 and 9 Media Studies. It is primarily preparation for the Year 11 and 12 ATAR and
General Media Production and Analysis Courses of Study. Students examine how
advertisements, film genres and narratives are constructed and produce short films and
advertisements that reflect their understanding of film through historical and cultural
context. As this course is primarily preparation for Year 11, a larger emphasis is placed on
theoretical and analytical skill development through essay writing and discussion of film
genres; however students also work in small production teams, experiencing the different
production roles required to produce films. This course will appeal to students who
have studied Media in Years 7, 8 or 9 and would like to further develop their skills and
experience.
