Year 10 Discovery Course Which Year 11 course does it lead to?
l Chinese (All Year) Leads to Chinese (ATAR)
This unit is offered in Semester 1. Previous study of Chinese is desirable, but is not a
pre-requisite. Students will learn about Chinese language and culture from a personal
perspective. They will develop the language necessary for interacting with their Chinese-
speaking peers and will be able to seek and give information about personal interests,
popular culture and other aspects of life in a Chinese-speaking community. Students are
encouraged to continue in Semester 2.
Course focus: Things to do
This unit is offered in Semester 2 and Semester 1 Chinese is a pre-requisite. Students
will begin to acquire the appreciation and understanding of Chinese-speaking countries
that they will need for travelling within those communities. They will develop language
skills necessary for interacting with speakers of Chinese and will be able to seek and give
information and express opinions about leisure activities and technology. Such skills will
equip them for making contact with Chinese-speaking peers via the internet.
