Publisher Notes
Firstly, a big thank you to all the contributors who took part not
only in writing for us this month but also to the producers and
artists who took part in our phone interviews and correspondence.
Your contributions have really taken the magazine to a new level this
month and I repeatedly have the experience of declaring that our
most recent issue is the best issue we’ve published. ‘The Producers of
Comedy’ is no exception.
May is a huge month for the magazine. We are ramping up for the
Quarterly Retort on Saturday 26th July and approaching even faster
is ‘The Good Hurt’ monthly comedy room set to debut on
Wednesday 28th May which, at the time of publishing is four days
from now! Jitters heaps.
And now, I will pass you over to Steph who wrote her notes after mine
so she can’t make any changes to the document. Steph smells...
Magazine Director’s Notes
When Beau told me we were going to be doing an issue on
producers, he was met with a blank look. I didn’t know the first
thing about producing. After toiling on this fantastic issue however,
I have gained huge respect for these behind-the-scenes miracle
workers. In this issue, we talk to Lisa Dib, who runs ‘Puggs in
Space’, Jonathon Homsey, who won Best Producer at the Fringe
Festival last year, Cath Styles, who gives her perspective on being
both a performer and a producer, and Janet McLeod, who runs the
hugely successful ‘Local Laughs’ in St Kilda. Along with our hardworking writing team, this issue gives insight about some of the
most innovative producers around today, what it takes to be a good
producer, and a few tricks of the trade.
