and starts asking the crowd, ‘did you fuck Susan?’ to a beat, “then I just do it in a variety of
accents. For some reason it works, I don’t know
why it does. That one was almost instant”.
The origin of ‘Did you Fuck Susan?’ started one
summer, when Conway was wearing a maroon
hat and a maroon jacket in the style of a college
blazer. “I was just walking around my house doing a character who was like, ‘did you fuck my
girlfriend? Did you fuck Susan?’ to my housemate, like a college jock. Then a little bit later
when a few friends were around, we were getting
drunk and having a jam. I was on bass, playing a
punk song and I started singing ‘did you fuck Susan? Did you fuck Susan?’ and then that kinda
sat for a while.”
Conway’s rehearsal predominantly takes place
live onstage, however he does “a lot of walking
around the house, coming up with bits, listening to music”. He explains that his show doesn’t
need much rehearsal, because it is funniest
when he is rambling aimlessly in front of an audience, “then after a while, it becomes a thing.
