The New Zealand builders , Logan Bros and Bailey , had a tremendous influence on Australian yachting , although many local New Zealand yachtsmen lamenced that every time they developed a flyer . some rich Australian came across the Tasman and took her away .
Tiie 191 ~ 15 race season was abandoned . The minute read :
Owing to tlte outbreak of war , the usual yachting progr . uri is abandoned , it being the desire of the officers and members that the sport and all accompanying functions should be discontinued for the time being .
It ls understandable that during World Wart monthly meetings of the club were poorly attended and consisted mainly of confirming the minuteS of previous meetings . which in themselves were quite shon . However , the club remained open and business went

There had been little club acnvity during the war )' ears excep1 patrioric work and the emenainment of visiting servicemen . The club invested practically the whole of its liquid resouroes of £ 1500 in Commoowealtl ' I War Loan Bonds .
In 1917 lhe club was 50 years old , bur because of the war no celebrations were made until a few years later . It was , bo " evcr , with light and happy hearts that on 18 Jw1uury 1919 , in conjunction with the
Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron , the club held the first yachting event after the signing of the am1istice . Club chronicler L . C . Wateanan noted :
Yachting Rcndevous . The armistice which was practically tlte conclusion of the Great European War in favour of Great Britain and her Allies , afforded opportunity to discuss the resumption of yacht racing . To celebrate the event , In conjunction with the Royal Sydney Yach1 Squadron , a rendevous was held on 18 January under Steel Point and we were joined by those of the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club and the Motor Yacht Club .
Jn 1914 Commodore Walter M . Maries was onboard Sir Thomas Lipton ' s Shamrock
IV well across the Atlantic Ocean on her way to chnllengc for the America ' s Cup . Shown in the picture is Shamrock IV and astern ofbcr . Sir Thomas Lipton ' s steam yacht Erin . Erin was signalling : ' Rerum . England has declared war on Oennany .' After a hurried conference it was decided
10 continue on to New Yo ~ where Shamrock IV was laid up and the crew took passage home by steamer . Shamrock IV was taken out of dry dock in 1919 and challenged for the America ' s Cup in 1920 . She won the first iwo heats over the American Resolutt and came very close to taking the cup home .
