amounting to linle over one hundred pounds . There were 31 yachis on the register .
The beginning of the 1890s finds the club drifting rather aimlessly , without much real emhusiasm until Samuel Hordern was elected Commodore in I 892 .
Mr Hordem , who had joined the club in 1873 , was appointed auditor in 1876 . He was not only a keen yachtsman who had owned many yachts . but was also very active as a businessman , organiser and leader .
The next ten years ( 1890--1900 ) saw some fine racing in the club . Opening days were often held as reganas , with the majority of the yachts in Port Jackson taking part . Bronzewlng and B11lb11 /, the two crack 2 I / 2-raters , had numerous challenge races which were exciting to the owners and crews , as well as spectators . Another famous race during these years was the last meeting of Era , a 35-ft rater belonging to A . G . Milson of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron , with Vo / wueer , the 30-tonner owned by F . Henderson .
One item on the club ' s calendar in the very early days was the Easter Camp at the Basin , Broken Bay . In those days the channel leading into the Basin was dredged every year by the Ku-ring-gai Shire Council and quite deep-draugbted vessels could enter and anchor in the Basin itself .

To celebrate the first Easter of 1900 the club arranged a General Camp at the Basin , Broken Bay . Among the yachts that took part were Bronzewilig ( Commodore Hordem ), ! sea ( Walter Marks ). Sapphire ( H . A . Jones ), Violet , Aotea . Jesse , Defender , Colanni , Doris , Lahloo , Zi11e1a , Aoma and a number of smaller boats . To quote from L . C . Waterman ' s journals :
To celebrate the last Easter season of lhe nine · teen th century the club arranged and carried out a Gener-al Camp at the Basin , Broken Bay .
Mr Wearlier Clerk magnanimously provided four days fine weather ... indeed phenomenal ; true , some of the wind was a bit of a gear tester . but that only gave the yachismen an opportunity of displaying their seamanship .
