In future yenrs the club may be gi \' cn the opportunity of purchasing adjacent or nearby propenies that would give additional area for other recrcai ional facilities . They mny include areas for squash or tennis court . s , a gymnasium , a bowling rink or space for other ' porting activities .
1l1c present clubhouse building incurs a height limit and 1 < set lx > ck from the high water mark in accordance with the local council ' s building ordinance so there is little chance for expansion there . There are possibilities . howe \' er , with tho BonL < hed which was built in 1938 , added 10 in 1948 and is now under con ~ 1d crution for replacemem by a modem building that would be in keeping with the present clubhouse . The thought is to provide offices . storage and working space for the club staff and concessionaires that would improve the facillues for those working on members ' vessels . 1be plan is that this building would be confined within the club ' s freehold boundary and thus allow the two concrete hardstand area > to be joined , providing additional
yacht storage .
When the marinas were construct . cd , the first one in l962 . the pile berth method was considered the most suitable . Since then the Ooating type has been greatly developed by the use of modules . A floating complex may eventually replace the fued pile structure . o . llowing more vessels to be stored wilhin the area . each vessel being more accessible 10 the owner
and guesis . One olhcr thing to consider is ! hat the · face ' of
yacht racing is changing compared to that of a decade ago . Cruising ynchlS were then on the wane nnd class racing was the most popular type of rucing . I ! would

Ocean racing for passage racing is certrunly increasing due 10 the acceptanee of arbitrary handicap divisions for yachts that are not in1cresled in the International Offshore Ruic . Fonunately the club planned 10 cater for the many facets or boating . and further development of the club and its focilitics will incorporate any future ! rends .
