A special member category was enjoyed by Sydney Club members who partOOk of thc social side of the club in exchange for their reciprocity of membership of tbe Sydney Club for ordinary members of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club . Two Impressive marble slabs carrying ~ tc club ' s name , which had previously adorned the doors of the club ' s Rowe Street premises . wore located and inserted into o new stonewod : entrance gate . This is the imposing entrance of today . In 1984 the front doors or thc clubhouse were replaced with Tasmanian oak doors . This work was followed in 1985-0 with the reuling of the entrance foyer and the retiling and refurbishing of the porte-cochere . The old ship ' s anchor is from HMS Pengui11 which was described
Ma single-screw . composite sloop-of-war . Built in Glasgow in 1876 . she arrived in Australia in 1890 and uniil I 906wasmostactivelyemployedaloogthe Auslralian coastline . She rendered yeoman service to the hydrograpby of Australia and the Pacific . The record deep-sounding of the Pacific was obtained by HMS Ptng11i11 at the great Kermandce Dccpat5515 fathoms . She later became a depot ship at Garden Island and was eventually sold and became a coal hulk .
