ing and the nom1al costs of running the club continued . Things were not going well . The top floor of ' Moonbar ' need to be convened and to make things worse the retaining wall between the new marinas collapsed . Quite rightly , the Committee were disturbed by the situation .
Correspondence was received from P . Flttcher regarding a ships ' chandlery . It was considered a good idea to establish such a facility for members and tenders were called .
Hallets Beach had prcvioasly been the venue for the club ' s annual Christmas picnic but it was decided that the 1970 picnic be held at the Basin .
At about this time the Mutual Life & Citizens ' Insurance Company purchased the Australia Hotel and other buildings in Castlereagh Street , between Martin Place and King Street , with Ute objective of creating a new development in that area . Lend Lease had approached the club with an offer . It was decided to accept the offer and vacant possession was set as at 31 December 1972 .
And so the club finished a year not witllout its worries : the upheaval associated with development and the consequent loss of revenue from inhouse sales . But better times were ahead .
On 26 January 1972 discussi < m took place regarding the patronage of the new clubhouse at Green Point . Here was a magnificent dining room with very few diners . It had to rely entirely on local members and club functions . The club is not as fortunate as
