On 6 September 1951 there was a suggestion of a name change for ihe Sydney Yacht Racing Associa­ Lion to the Yacht Racing Association of New South Wales . But it was not until February 1954 . after a good deal of discussion , that a new name-the Yachting Association of Australia-was decided upon .
On 29 September 195 l a special voie of thanks given Lo J . W . Smyth
for the valuable services he has rendered the club in ihe maner of the incorporation of the club and biscapable handling of the members ' increase in subscriptions . Also for his epic struggle in the Snooker Tournament !
The l 951-52 season was a happy one marked by good sailing breezes , the favourite nor ' easters turning up regularly on Saturdays for the hard work 10 Manly and the good run home . The club conducted ten races on Sydney Harbour and twenty on the Pinwater .
The Pittwatcr Management Commiuee put forward 1wo recommendations to a meeting on 17 June 1952 : ( i ) to erect a caretaker ' s cottage near the
boaL ~ hcd at a cost nor Lo exceed £ 2000 , and ( ii ) 10 construct a slipway capable of taking larger yachts , not to exceed £ I 000 in cost .
Al this time the sad news of the death of His Majesty King George VI was received . TI1e Secretary was instructed to forward to the Royal Family a message of sympathy and to assure Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of tl1e devotion and loyalty of all members of the club .
On I May 1952 it was decided IO advise K . C . K . Dalton that tl1e club could nor sponsor the Star class but that provision would be made for a certain number of race $ for this class next year .
The 1961 NSW Dragon Class Championships . The Dragon class yachts go
from strength to strength . There are many more racing world-wide than ever before .
