It was decided Lo open the Pill water sailing season on 29 September 1939 . This was just 26 days aftcr the declaration of war . A scale of weekly charges was established for yacht owners using Green Point ;

By 6 December 1939 a pontoon had been added 10 the jeuy in front of the boatshcd clubhouse at Green Point This had been requested by the Jubilee Management Committee .
On 18 March l942itwasdecidedtoclosedown the Ncwpon propeny until further notice . On 14 July the club received orders from the Commonweahh Government for the immobilisation of all club boats . Japan had entered the war and it was considered by Ll1e Defence Chiefs that any attack on Sydney would most probably come through the Pittwater area . There was good anchorage for a lleet in Broken Bay and liule defence against a landing in the area , whereas Sydney Harbour was reasonably defended . Action was taken to build gun emplacements into West Head and to erect a boom-the old gun emplacements rot there today .
