COLLEGE YAAD O’Shane ‘Kreemie’ Reid Interview tremendously valuable. I influence students to not only run for a guild position but also participate in activities on campus. The other day i even got the opportunity to go to Trinidad to represent the guild at the Inter Campus Guild Council Meeting (ICGC) and that was a wonderful experience, so my life has changed for the better. What is your Name? O’Shane ‘Kreemie’ Reid Why Kreemie? I normally say its because i have alot of flavour *laughs* but thats not the reason though. Growing up my mom had a ice cream shop, and i never use to go out so people use to call me kreeme so they use to see me in the ice cream shop. So from that, through high school and at college now my name is kreemie. As Guild Public Relations Officer (P.R.O.) what are some of the plans you have for the remains of your tenure? Just to keep doing what i have been doing, the ...and development aspect of the portfolio, keeping people informed about activities happening on campus, because at the end of the day that is what people will judge my tenure as; how much did they know about the office of the guild P.R.O. and what is happening on campus. Just some new initiatives and just to be P.R. for outreach, sports, the president. Since the start of this semester its been going good, we were in the observer on January 19th and we were in the Gleaner on the 22nd. Give me a short bio of yourself? I am just 22, i look old, *laughs* i went to Camperdown High School and 6th form, i was deputy head boy, and despite popular belief i am a nice person. I use to play chess, thats a bit shocking, but i won, i also won RBTT National School Chess Championships, as captain of the team in 2008-2010. I am now at UWI studying Media and Communication at CARIMAC, i recently found that communication is my passion so i am sticking to that. If you could use three words to describe yourself, what would they be? Jovial, confident and positive Personally! Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I hope to start my masters, that is what i would like to do, because i think if i end school now and begin to work i will become complacent and then wont do my masters until somewhere around 30, and i would also love to get my PhD before 30 so i think school is a good point for me. I also hope to start my own communications firm, so hopefully in 5 years you’ll know about O’Shane Reid as a P.R. extraordinaire. What led you to run for a position on the UWI Guild? To be honest i was in 2nd year and the guild did not have a P.R.O. at the time, so finding my new love for communication i thought to myself how could i help my fellow students, so that is the reason i ran for a guild post as Public Relations Officer. I wanted to see how i could help and fix the problems. I said in my campaign that i wanted to restore the integrity of the guild. What were some of your memorable experiences as a student? Well the Trinidad experience feinately, but some other of these experiences are not solely mine, but t was great meeting wonderful people, building bonds and i have been to alot of places. Also moving on hall, the great Chancellor Hall: it is said that there are only two halls on campus How has your life changed as a guild representative? Well in high school i was quite kind of popular, so i wouldn’t say popularity, but a number of persons know me. But the experience on the guild has been 28
