During my times at BCIS , one of the many things that I enjoyed most was being able to engage with peers from different year levels . Through my involvement in the Student Council , Calligraphy Club , We Club , Banana Art Exhibition and the many school-wide events , I had the opportunity to collaborate and communicate with students from various backgrounds and year levels . For example , I directed and hosted the Annual Calligraphy Competition from 2017 to 2019 with the Calligraphy Club . Each year , around Spring Festival , the Calligraphy Competition takes place in the school gym , hosting faculty and all students from grades 6-12 to engage with rice paper , ink and brush for an afternoon . Category winners will have their calligraphy work displayed in the school and announced at the end of year assembly . In 2019 , we had the pleasure to invite senior citizens from the Calligraphy Club at Shuangjing Golden Heights to the campus . They acted as judges along with faculty in the Chinese department .

I graduated from BCIS in 2019 , and I ’ m currently studying my undergraduate degrees at Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York City , USA . My majors are Integrated Design ( BFA ) and Philosophy ( BA ). I ’ m grateful that my college experiences have been akin to my BCIS high school experiences . The open course structures allowed me to explore my interest in Fine Arts , with a focus on the environment and urban life . In the IB DP Visual Arts courses at BCIS , I was able to create works inspired by Beijing , the city where I grew up . At Parsons , I interacted with the urban environment of New York , the other city that influenced much of my decision making and creative processes . In the past three years at college , I have taken many classes in fine arts , environmental philosophy , jewelry making , machine knitting , and shoe construction . Right now , I ’ m focusing on using food and eating culture as a means of communication .
