Storytellers ’ Corner
The day arrived , but it was completely in the back of my head , forgotten without leaving a trace . Only when the teacher reminded us that the day was fun run , I then realized I better prepare myself to run . That afternoon , I gazed upon the field of the numerous obstacles like soldiers lined up in the battlefield , waiting for me to challenge them . What made it difficult was , these little “ soldiers ” were as tall as my knees . Although defeating a few of them seemed like a piece of cake , but an army of them wouldn ’ t be . However , the smart Isabella will never let things stand in her way . Why bother running over them like a prancing reindeer ? I simply decided to run around them . I knew this was a silly tactic , but the thought of me outsmarting them just amused me . Standing near the field were funky looking teachers dressed up in costumes . One of the male teachers even wore a pink skirt with some make up on . I mean , you don ’ t get to see this every day at school . I couldn ’ t help but laugh until me stomach nearly exploded . On this day , everyone can both be themselves and not be themselves , make exceptions and try new things .
After a few minutes , one of the teachers said , “ now you can run around the school !” I ran as if a leopard was chasing me , and when I got through the first lap , my legs started to turn like jelly . The teacher gave me a rubber wrist band that had our BCIS logo with “ BCIS ” printed red onto it . I struggled on my second lap . My shirt was soaked in sweat and my legs could barely stand . Hot . Sticky . Dizzy . Breathless , I started my third lap . This time , I walked slowly but I still had to struggle . I started to trip on those obstacles even though I was simply walking around them . After my third lap , I sat on a wooden bench , resting . I watched one of my friends finish another lap ; evidently , she was a better runner than I . “ It ’ s probably her fifth lap ”, I thought . Then , I straightened myself up , and just when I was about to run , I heard the speaker say , “ times up ! Let us go back to the field and go home !”
That late evening , as I was lying on my bed recalling the day , I realized how much fun I had ; at least more fun than the other physical health activities I have tried in the past . I finally understood what the word “ warrior ” meant . It meant that BCIS students are fighters who will never give up on anything – even if it means trying something you are least confident in . Just when I was thinking about that , I drifted to sleep .
