:As an Image Consultant, I often find that my clients’ main problem is not how they look but what they think about how they look. I’ve seen beautiful women with fantastic figures feel totally negative about themselves because of the “voice in their head” that tells them they are not good enough. Sometimes, this may be due to social conditioning. Perhaps their parents told them it was arrogant to care about their looks; or maybe they have a partner that likes to bully them emotionally.
Whatever the reason, as women we need to learn that body confidence comes not from our figure but our thoughts. Speaking to ourselves in a negative fashion is unkind and even rude – we wouldn’t talk to our best friends this way so why do we do it to ourselves?

1. Mind over matter: If we don’t mind, it doesn’t matter: Think about how you looked 10 years ago.
Do you think only of that excess weight you carried or the occasional bout of acne that sprouted on your face? Or do you think back and think about how popular you were and what a great time you had on first dates? Which way would you choose to think 10 years from now – negatively or positively?
Thinking with the benefit of hindsight often provides perspective into what really matters.
2. Beautiful is not perfect: Perfection is impossible. No-one is perfect; not even that movie star who probably relies on air-brushing to appear flawless. Being happy with your body means that you have chosen to live with its imperfections and even embrace them.
3. Don’t wish you were someone else: This is the quickest way to wish your life away. We are all different so there is no point in comparing yourself to other women. Don’t let your body confidence depend on those around you. Those women you are comparing yourself to are probably envying your legs or wishing they had your skin.
