The Do’s and Don’ts for your 2015 Corporate Perfume Wardrobe For some of us perfume may just be an afterthought but for others it is a part of their daily adornment routine. They just can’t live without it! This naturally includes their place of work. Research shows that perfume in the workplace can play a surprisingly significant role: - - Perfume is known to enhance moods, increase confidence, improve perceptions on professionalism and reduce stress levels. It has the power to make employees feel more dynamic and attractive. According to Anne M. Schell of Occidental College in Los Angeles; “It’s quite possible that we respond emotionally to odours without realising why we’re responding or even what our feelings are. You may well decide that someone is aggressive and pushy when it is their perfume or aftershave that’s getting on your nerves!” In the workplace “Your scent is your sensory trademark. It's what people remember you by. It can define someone's complete aura" (Nicole Winnaman). Success really does smell sweet! Perfumes with notes of patchouli and tropical fruits give off an aura achievement, study claims (Mail Online - 200 Noses) When working in a corporate environment we have experienced that some companies do have a policy on wearing perfume and others only deal with it when a problem arises. Allergies, headaches and just a general nagging dislike for a scent can be problematic, especially in an open plan office environment. Whether you are pitching for new business, attending an important board meeting or going for an interview it is important to have a greater sense of awareness regarding the impact your current corporate perfume wardrobe may be having. Perfume Power has a few guidelines that you may find of value: - Ask you colleagues how they are experiencing your perfume. Be sure not to be offended if the answer is not what you expected. Honesty pays in the long run! Do not spray your perfume in the office or just before arriving at the office. The initial spray can be very powerful and overwhelming for other employees Fresh, energetic and warm fruits and florals are preferred over sweet, spicy and musky perfumes when considering favorable business etiquette. Elegant and restrained perfumes offer a recipe for success! Be aware that alcohol, garlic and spicy foods can have a definite negative effect on the way your perfume develops. Your favorite perfume can alter if any of these are consumed in excess. Using body creams, hair perfume and lighter perfume concentrations such as eau de Toilettes are safer options and less likely to offend or create a stink the office!
