Annique Sunscreen upgraded to International Standards

The purpose of sun protection to assist you in limiting your exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet(UV)radiation. If you look at sun burnt skin under microscope, you will see that the skin cells and blood vessels in the skin have been damaged.

If you repeatedly allow your skin to be damaged by the sun, your skin will start to look dry and wrinkled, discoloured and leathery. It will look “thicker” but what you actually have done is weakened your skin. The result being premature aging, and the risk of developing melanoma. One of the most dangerous types of cancer. To prevent this you should be using a sunscreen daily. This has been a recommendation from Dr Theron and Medunsa since the 1970’s

A sunscreen is a product to help prevent the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation from penetrating the skin. The interaction between the sunscreen and the UV radiation, allows the sunscreen to absorb the UV before it penetrates the skin.A sunscreen should provide protection against both UVA (that can cause aging) and UVB (that can cause sunburn)radiation and also potentially exacerbate the carcinogenic effects of UVB rays.

The SPF number stands for Sun Protection Factor. Theoretically, if you use a sunscreen with a SPF15, it will prevent your skin from getting red for approximately 15 times longer than had you not used a sunscreen.

How does UV affect the skin?

What many people don’t realize is that UV radiation can effect anybody, no matter what your skin colour. When we expose ourselves to the sun, our bodies defence system comes to our rescue by producing more melanin.(we like to call, a tan) This is not fashionable, what it is, is an indication from our bodies that we have caused UV damage to our skins. This month’s specials at Annique Health and Beauty:
