CONT’D….
XQUISITE – First off, we are blown away at just how beautiful you are Selina. POETICALLY GORGEOUS!!! Now...um, tell us
about yourself both professionally and personally!
SOL – (Laughs) Well thank you! I'm a singer/songwriter trying to leave a mark in this genre we call Tropical/Salsa.
I'm of Puerto Rican decent, raised by both parents. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York. I am a mother of three (3)
Maxine, Brandon and Maddox. My best accomplishment has been as a mom. Recently I've decided to retire from the
Salsa world as a performer manager, so the picture above is from my very last performance July 7 of this year. Everyone
thinks I am bitter or unhappy, but truthfully I am liberated knowing I will continue in the music, just not as a performer.
My priorities are for my children and with Maxine Ashley (my daughter) who’s now signed to Pharrell Williams/i am
OTHER label, I have a tremendous responsibility as her “MOMager” which is what people call me and I take such pride in
because the word MOM is first! (Smiles) Check my daughter out on youtube.com/maxineashley !!!
XQUISITE – Wow!!! Well this leads up to our next question: What are some of your likes and dislikes?
SOL I dislike, liars, cheaters, petty people, but who doesn't! I LOVE music, I LOVE being a MOM, I LOVE singing, I LOVE
writing, I LOVE life right now. (laughs)
XQUISITE How did you get started into the music scene? Our mouths dropped when we first heard your voice. Lady, you
sound like songbird when you sing? VERY BEAUTIFUL INDEED! Got any inspirations or musical artists that you looked up to
growing up? SOL I was
born this way HA! No really, my mom claims the nurses clapped when I left the hospital that's how loud I was (laughing) I
am a daughter of a musical expert (in his mind) my dad, he sincerely lived through music and so I just grew up listening
to Motown music as if it were a language. For real!!! If it rained, I would sing "I Wanna Go Outside In The Rain" and
my dad was always like “SHET UP!” (laughing) So at the age of 9 their someone was recruiting for a all girl hip hop group
(yes 9) and I fit right in and I used to RAP! Yikes! It was so cool, almost like I actually knew what I was doing (The video
girls) that was our name. That led me to open up in the 90's at (9 yrs. old) for The Fat Boys, Cynthia, Brenda K Starr,
amongst many others and that's all she wrote, (laughs) there after I've done nothing but MUSIC.
