February is a great month for fertilizing plants and trees. This amendment aids the plant in taking up additional nutrients that can be crucial in preventing stress during the summer. All tree types can benefit from fertilization, but particularly trees in a lawn setting.

These broadleaf or non-native trees benefit from fertilizer.

Flowering, frost sensitive and fruiting trees benefit as well.

Trees that have an individual history of showing stress should have fertilizer. This is on a case-by-case basis.

This month is also the time to turn our attention to your olive trees.

Olive trees remind us of the stunning fields in Tuscany. If these trees are not properly sprayed, the joy of the tree is completely overshadowed by the dark stains left on your sidewalk from falling fruit. We recommend pruning the olive trees prior to spraying. Doing this opens the tree up so the application is more evenly coated on all areas. The spray should be applied when all of the buds have opened into flowers.
