FRANCESCA
BORTON
With a tidy desk reflecting
her tidy mind, Fran has a
natural aptitude for figures
and a love to get things neat
and orderly. Fit, energetic,
always on the go and
unable to sit still for long,
even down time embraces
her passion for action, what
with marathons, a triathlon
and walking the Great Wall
of China on the horizon...
How long have you been with
Racoon?
Since July 2013.
What did you do pre-Racoon?
I’ve chalked up 30 years experience
in financial departments of all business
sectors, both public and private. I’ve
worked in a niche electro-plating
company in Daventry (where I think
gilding someone’s Rolls Royce emblem
had to be the class act) to managing
local council budgets, sorting the
finances of a private mixed pupil day
school to finance manager of a top
logistics company. That job was a
bit of an odd one; my first task was
to calculate all the staff’s redundancy
packages, so I quickly became known
as the Axe Lady – not a happy place
to be.
How do you get to and from
work and when do you start
and finish?
Nine to five usually. Bilton, where
I live is 15 miles away so I drive.
A typical working day sees me...
Anchored to my desk at the
moment! There’s lots of scope to
develop Racoon’s existing systems
to serve the Company much
better as it continues to progress.
As we drive forward it will make
procedures flow better, be more
efficient and orderly.
What I love about my job is...
There’s scope to make a difference,
plenty to do and lots of willing
support from my colleagues in
every department. Racoon is a very
happy and helpful place to work.
The most challenging part of
my job is...
Remaining anchored to my desk!
I’m naturally energetic, full of beans
but swimming three times a week
and walking the dog helps use up
some of my surplus energy.
What I see from my office
window...
Racoon’s offices are set in glorious
countryside so as an outdoorsy
type, for me to see green fields
and have such a light and airy
environment is just lovely; much
nicer than a stuffy city centre which
can become oppressive.
For lunch I usually eat...
Whatever I find in the fridge!
Usually it’s something healthy,
soup and a sandwich made from
my home baked bread.There’s no
guilty snacks in my desk drawer...
too healthy for those.
Do you have pets?
Yes, Jess, a labrador. She was my
sister’s dog but now she’s mine. Yay!

Any particular passions or
hobbies?
Sport is my passion. I love everything
sporty, I’m quite competitive. I swim
three times a week, go to the gym,
go to spin class on Fridays, run 10K’s
for charities such as Macmillans,
Alzheimer’s, women’s refuges etc. I
also have a triathlon to do soon.
Where do you like to go on
holiday?
Well there’s no sitting around on
beaches for me! I love active holidays;
last year I went cycling through Jordan,
this September I’m going to walk the
Great Wall of China and next year
I’d like to try to somehow get to Easter
Island.
Describe a typical weekend
Obviously lots of exercise, some
gardening, walking Jess and my
hobby is antiques restoration. I’ve
lived for five years in a Victorian
house which is an on-going project
so I’m half-way through rubbing
down the staircase at the moment.
Your favourite hair
extensions?
Before working at Racoon I didn’t
know much about extensions and I
must say what I’ve learnt and seen
so far has changed my perception
– for the better of course!
