WORKSHOP 2 – CONCEPTUAL MASSING
This workshop will cover the basics of creating a Conceptual Mass family in Revit. This will be from
the basic tool and shape creation to loading a Mass Family into your project and creating a building
from it. We will also be looking at creating Mass Floors, Scheduling the floor areas of the mass that
was created, solving the ‘Fish Scaling’ problem when creating curtain walls from Mass Family faces.
This will include some basic adaptive component creation.
There are two ways of
creating a Conceptual Mass in
Revit.
One is to use the ‘In-Place
Mass tool that is found under
the Massing and Site tab in
the Ribbon. This is use full for
creating a conceptual mass
that has or needs context.
This could be existing
buildings that are on or around
the site already.
The second way is to create a
new ‘stand-alone’ mass
Family. This would be created
by going to the Revit
Applications button.
Expanding the New Family
button and choosing
Conceptual Mass. This
method creates a Mass Family
which is then loaded into your
project and used as a frame
on which the building is
created.
