Modelling – Floors, Columns and Beams
joined from the wall (note
the intersection of the
column and the wall,
similar to the selected
number one column)
4. The now un joined
column is rejoined,
reverting back to condition
2
Generally speaking
condition 1 is the preferred
choice. Although they are
not joined, a join is
assumed if the column is
placed over the wall, in
favour of the column.
This is achieved in the
column’s Family Category
and Parameters, by
checking "Show family pre-
cut in plan views"
Note: once a column is
altered from this initial
state it cannot be reverted
back to the original state.
A workaround would be to
create a new subcategory
in the family and then
create in the plan view. In
the project these detail
lines can then be adjusted
in the column’s object
styles.
The placement of slanted
columns can be achieved
by either snapping to
existing geometry (using 3-
D snapping) or by
specifying a first click
versus second click height
adjustment (by selecting
different levels and/or
offsets - see right)
Many people avoid slanted
columns as they quote
unquote don't end nicely.
