Modelling – Floors, Columns and Beams
If your project has many Slab
edges, and you require a
standard detail to permeate
any sections through these
edges, it may be beneficial to
load a detail component into
the profile family (nesting)
Sketch your basic detail up as
required, and load it into the
profile family.
You can further enhance this
procedure by nesting in
standard detail items such as
bolt heads, metal anchors all
structural steel members (many
of these are available in the
libraries installed with Revit.
These individual components
placed separately, will allow you
to control the visibility of each
independently of the others,
allowing you varying levels of
detail in your views, the
example right shows the
brickwork on the lake
highlighted at medium in fine
detail and the anchor bolts and
support structure at fine.
Tip: detail components nested
into profiles will only show if the
path of the Slab edge is
perpendicular to the screen.
This means that a Slab edge on
an arced floor will not display
the detail components at all
Note: Slab edges will not
populate on floors with
modified sub elements, if those
sub elements have effectively
smoked that law. They will
