BULL 1 BACK AND TORSO Quin omne frangat et calcet tergum meum . Ut tauri latus est nigrum malumque , Papa sic malus est nigrique mores . Vanum praesidium est meum tutela sed fortissima sola leonis . Indeed let him dash and trample upon all my back . As the flank of the bull is black and bad , so is the Pope bad and his manners black . Mine is an empty safeguard ; but the lion ’ s protection is alone the strongest .

You break my horns ! Let him who detains me touch my horns , my innards ! I bellow that my chest is wounded . You unsinew my feet , and fiercely is my ( foot ) pressed down , you expose my feet , Lion of Britain , my feet , my feet ! You wound my feet , and , mighty Lion , you wound me – the role of the lion .
3 TAIL Nam fortissima sola leonis maximaque tutela . For the lion ’ s protection alone is strongest and greatest .
SUBSCRIPTION Hic Leo magnanimum signatque refertque Jacobum ,
Et taurus Papam denotat iste nigrum .
This Lion marks out and represents great-souled James , And that bull denotes the black Pope .
