This is to certify that by using Carbon Balanced Paper for the 2024 Wykeham Journal, Winchester College has offset the equivalent of 600kgs of CO 2 e.
This support will enable World Land Trust to protect and restore 115m 2 of critically threatened tropical forest.
Issued on 24 / 03 / 2025 Registration ID CBP2296 Presented by World Land Trust
As part of the War Cloister Centenary conservation project, all the regimental badges and other emblems were restored and many were re-painted and re-gilded. One of the beauties of the restoration is that Palladium leaf has been used to replace what was once Silver leaf, a metal that tarnishes badly. In some instances the corroded silver had been painted over or covered in gold leaf.
An example is the newly-brightened Rifle Brigade badge( right), representing one of the four regiments most closely associated with Winchester College. Their badges are carried by carved wooden angels. Nearly 80 Wykehamists served in the Rifle Brigade during the First World War, of whom 34 fell and are remembered in War Cloister.
The close association continues to this day. The Rifle Brigade is one of the antecedent regiments of The Rifles, with which the College CCF remains affiliated.
The conservation project was entirely funded by donations. We thank everyone who by their contribution has ensured the commemoration of the Fallen in such a remarkable setting.
World Land Trust balances emissions through the protection, preservation and reforestation of tropical forest under threat of deforestation and degradation.
