DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT ' S REPORT

A s I sit here at my desk on Kingsgate Street, reflecting on the past 12 months, it’ s hard to credit the progress that has taken place in just one year.

For pupils, the most exciting and significant development was the handover of the new Sports Centre in time for the start of the academic year in September. It is absolutely wonderful to go in there now and find it teeming with happy young people, scaling the climbing wall, giving it their all in the gym, engaging in friendly rivalry on the squash and Fives courts, limbering up in the studio, throwing each other around in the Dojo and playing everything from badminton to basketball in the spectacular Sports Hall.
The contribution of donors to this wonderful new facility was substantial and we were thrilled to be able to share it with so many of you during our Festival of Sport weekend last November. My photograph above, was taken in the foyer of the new building, standing next to a long list of names, acknowledging those who supported the project. Thank you again to every one of you who made a gift. We are hugely grateful.
The beautiful centenary conservation of our historic War Cloister was also completed this year through your generous support, and a moving rededication service was held during Wykeham Day in June.
