The formation of the UTCs in 2014 , through the Baker Dearing Trust , has been driven by Charles Parker ( F , 1966-71 ). There are now 47 UTCs around the country , making their mark in the provision of technical skills for entry to degree apprenticeships in major companies , and to universities , including Oxbridge . UTC Portsmouth is the Hampshire leader in STEM education ; there is some irony , but also satisfaction , in Dr Hands ’ comment that UTCP sits in one of two parishes in Portsmouth which Winchester once owned , but has since sold , the proceeds funding Science School . Surely a description of continuity !
