Family Tradition: RICHARD & HENRY FULLER

One father and son, from a particularly Wykehamical family, have the good fortune to be fifth and sixth generation Wykehamists. Richard and Henry, both Fullers, both Wykehamists, have led their own paths through life. Richard started his time at the school in 1973. His own father had been a Trantite, as had his grandfather, and both went on to serve in the armed forces. Their family are famous for giving their name to a successful and much-loved brewery company based in Chiswick( which eventually took the

Wykeham Arms in hand). Richard himself had no intention of joining the RAF as his father had, nor did he harbour any desire to join the company.“ All I wanted to do was build and race motorbikes; and fish. I didn’ t even want to go to university,” he recalls of deciding what came after school. True to his innate independence, Richard decided to join a mate of his from prep school and become a tree surgeon.“ But business is about controlled rebelliousness,” he says, now firmly at the helm of the family brewery, which he decided to join at the age of 24. Starting as an Area Manager, he then took on the role of
