A British Naval Deck Gun's Story
My journey began as my british ship left. I felt quite special knowing that I was very significant to my british ship. Gun’s have been very scarce at the beginning of the war. As we traveled through the sea, I got some use, but I got the most use when some men speaking an odd language invaded my ship. I panicked as they attacked the ship. I had no idea who they were until a sailor on my ship yelled, “Germans”. I was fired dozens of times, but the German men successfully conquered my ship. After everything had settled, a few german men started talking and lifted me off my deck. I was furious.
“These men can’t just invade my ship. What do they even think they’re doing, lifting me off my own deck.”
I scoffed as they carried me to their ship. I don’t want to be on this nasty ship, I want to be on my ship. They placed me on their ship, on the deck of course. I was on that ship for a long period of time. I crossed the pacific on that deck. One day, however, we reached some sort of harbor. Buildings and a tall lady holding a torch were standing in the harbor. I was fired a few times, but the men from the harbor raided the german ship and took it over. I watched the men talk on the ship and listened to them.
“You know, Frank, this deck gun doesn’t look like it was made by a german.” one man said. English! That man spoke english.
“It must be one of the british naval deck guns. We have to put it on our ship. We have to tell the commander.” The other one said. One man’s patch had an eagle on it. I immediately knew where I was. In the New York Harbor. A few hours later, some american sailors took me off the German deck and placed me on their deck. I went out to sea on more year, and then I was retired. Now I just sit at a museum, as people admire me and love to read my story.
