On 1914 Princess Mary ( KIng George V’s daughter) decided thst she wanted to wish all of the British Milittary a Merry Christmas by sending them a very special gift known as the “Princes Mary Box”. The boxes contained smokes, candy, pencils, supplies like soap and stationary, and a photo of Princess Mary. A total of 2,504,677 boxes were made. The princess said that she wanted to give several small gifts to provide cheer to “everyone who woud be wearing the King’s uniform on Christmas Day 1914. The boxes were devised in October 1914 and intended for distribution to all the British soldiers who were serving on land or at seas.
