Mr. Simon Tu, the Taiwanese

representative in Ireland, attended a reception hosted by the Enniscorthy Municipal Council in the castle on Monday afternoon, 6th November, 2017. After formal greetings by Chairperson, Keith Doyle and a short but entertaining speech by his Excellency Mr. Tu, the musical entertainment began, provided by two second-level soloists from the woodwind section of our orchestra.

Rhian Tyrell Wright, 5th year Music student, played the haunting Carrickfergus air on clarinet while Conor Kenny, 3rd year Music student, displayed great tin whistle skill in some lively jigs. A jazz/blues piece by Rhian led to Conor

playing the local rebel song, Boolavogue, on tin whistle as the final part of their recital.

Mr. Tu complimented the soloists on their musical ability, as did many other guests. The ambassador also gave gifts to the students and posed for several press photographs. It was a very interesting afternoon, and provided an opportunity for our music-students to be ambassadors for the county.
