Dungarvan and An Rinn

School Completion Programme

Induction Programme for 1st Years in Coláiste Chathail Naofa

The Dungarvan and An Rinn School Completion Programme in collaboration with staff from Coláiste Chathail Naofa, Dungarvan facilitated an Induction Programme with a difference for incoming 1st Years.

On August 21st; 5 senior cycle students willingly gave up time from their summer holidays to participate in our planned programme for leaders.

The following day, Principal Danny Cunningham and Deputy Principal Jason Ryan welcomed the incoming 1st Year group to school. Students completed an interactive induction programme which gave students the opportunity to get to know their classmates, ask questions, learn about how post primary school life works, settle any nerves they may have had and take part in an orienteering activity to get to grips with the layout of the school grounds.

On Wednesday morning, all students arrived bright and early at Coláiste Chathail Naofa to depart for Cuskinny Court Activity Centre, Cobh, Co. Cork. Here, students learned to build trust with their classmates taking part in blind-folded team games and grass sledging. We have great hopes for the future of Waterford’s hospitality industry; as we were treated to a Campfire Master Chef experience. Students concocted edible delicacies with a very limited range of ingredients cooked over a campfire.

We wrapped up our day with the mucky obstacle course, the hugely popular water slide and a campfire cycle of toasted marshmallows and campfire singing (and dancing) that will remain in our memories for years to come!

Dungarvan and An Rinn SCP would like to wish every 1st Year student the very best on their journey. We’d like to extend a special thank you to the 5 senior cycle students who helped to add to the experience of the new 1st year class, the fantastic staff at both Cuskinny Court and Coláiste Chathail Naofa for their support with this initiative.
